“Asur” is an enthralling Indian web series that delves deep into the realms of psychology, mythology and crime. Directed by Oni Sen, this crime thriller presents a unique blend of mythology and modern-day investigative drama, keeping the viewers on the edge of their seats throughout its eight-episode run.
It is said that in ancient Hindu mythology whenever there is a crisis in the world all God comes to lord Vishnu for help and he takes an \’avatar\’ for the cause of peace and to maintain the \’Dharma\’ in the world. Likewise in \”kalyug\” when it will be the peak of \’KALI\’ lord Vishnu will appear as the ‘KALKI’ to uproot all the sinners. Taking into consideration to that, a psychopath killer was born in the city of Varanasi in the late 90s. In his childhood, he was rebuked, beaten and addressed as the \’ASUR\’ by his father. Eventually, he killed his father and bear no regrets.

Arshad Warsi, playing the character of Dhananjay Rajpoot is a dedicated CBI officer who helped the concerned officers in the same case. His saying \”Yeh game bahut lamba jayega\” while solving a case gives the series an intriguing direction. Barun Sobti, playing the character of a good husband and father but struggling with his ashes from the past is always in a fix to make the right decision in his life. He becomes more serious and emotional as the character develops in the series. Anupriya Goenka and Ridhi Dogra are the two female lead characters in the series. The former one is a loving wife and caring mother who doesn\’t want her husband to return to his past workplace. Ridhi Dogra is portrayed as one of the best female officers of the CBI, has dedicated her life to her work and never compromised her ethics.
More interestingly, in the present day the sinner \’KALI\’ kills people for their goodness as he wants to challenge lord Vishnu to appear as the \’KALKI\’ and indicates that there will be the peak of the bad things happening in the society and people will kill each other for their survival in kalyug. He has no regrets for his deeds because even in the past God used false trap to defeat the ‘ASUR’ (sons of DITI and RISHI KASHYAP). The officers are trying to catch him and now they are in a rabbit hole.
The eye-catching moment when the sinner comes with the line – \”ANTHA ASTI PRARAMBH\” which means \”The end is the new beginning\” which keeps the people engaged with the series and every bit of it connects to the Hindu mythology and convinces the audience that there is a very thin line between good and bad and we all have an evil within ourselves.p
The story is evenly poised with various complexities. It is worth watching due to its phenomenal direction by Oni Sen. It is said to be one of its kind – a \”mythological thriller\” in the history of Indian web series till date because it works like a bridge between the ancient Hindu mythology and current situation of the society.
