Trailers: OMG 2

Recently I watched OMG 2, the sequel to one of the most controversial films of all time, OMG. Each of them contains intense courtroom drama with a powerful social message at their core.

Cast for Pitch-Perfect Comedy
The cast of the movie is a mosaic of the comedy-veterans like Akshay Kumar as the representative of Lord Shiva, Pankaj Tripathi as Kanti Sharan and Yami Gautam as Kamini Maheswari. The cast also includes Pavan Malhotra, Brijendra Kala and Arun Govil.

A Fresh Story for the Time
The story revolves around a boy (Vivek) who is caught masturbating in the school toilet and his video has been made viral by his bullies. Despite his father’s (Kanti Sharan) religious and orthodox beliefs, he filed a case against the school and others who failed to address his son’s doubts about his sexuality. The courtroom drama that follows is intense, with a heated debate on whether sex education should be included in the school syllabus. Throughout the trial, the representative of Lord Shiva guides Kanti Sharan and ensures his victory. This story is evidence of the power of standing up for what is right and fighting for justice.

This satirical movie is an absolute laugh riot! The judge and Kamini’s inability to comprehend refined Hindi is downright comical. The court drama is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before – it’s packed with unexpected surprises and hilarious moments. One scene even shows two men chowing down on food while watching the trial unfold- it’s an excellent example of how people can find humour in even the most serious situations.

But amidst all the laughs, there’s truly a touching moment where a sex worker is questioned about the way men treat them. Some men don’t even know what they’re doing, while others treat these women like animals and subject them to unspeakable torture. The lack of sex education is a major factor in the prevalence of rape, sexual assault and violent behaviour. When we fail to educate our children about bad touch and good touch, they get too afraid to speak out when they’re being abused. This movie shares a message that the youth can confidently learn sex education from schools and colleges without resorting to the “incognito mode”.

Cinematic Presentation

The cinematography in this movie is divine and spectacular. The attention to details is impressive, especially in the scenes featuring Lord Shiva. A scene features how Lord’s angel is taking in the poison that Vivek consumed. There is another scene where water is offered to the Shivalinga and simultaneously it pours down on Akshay Kumar’s character. Above him on the right is a crescent moon. It felt surreal and heavenly. Every time Akshay Kumar says “रख विश्वास तू है शिव का दास” (“You are the servant of Lord Shiva, have faith in him.”) it sends chills down my spine.

God, Taboo and Literature
I’d like to point out that without Lord Shiva’s divine intervention, the taboo surrounding sex education could have been addressed. The presence of Lord Shiva was unneeded, as an individual with a sound education could have served the same purpose. It’s petty of the makers to drag Gods and Hinduism just for the sake box-office collection.

This film makes that point crystal clear, and it does so in a way that’s both entertaining and thought-provoking. So, if you’re looking for a movie that will make you laugh, make you think, and leave you feeling inspired, look no further than this gem. It explored sexual taboos and how they have been perceived in Indian society long before any Western country. The movie highlights the numerous books on sex written by Charaka and other physicians, including the Kamasutra. Ancient Indians considered sex a science and saw no reason to be ashamed of it. This film addresses a delicate matter and it caters to all age groups. However, the censor board’s excessive interference and unwarranted edits may have diminished the overall impact of the film.
